ABSTRACT
The prediction made at the turn of this century by the US Secretary of State that the Pacific would be the ocean of the future has turned out to have been remarkably far-sighted and the configuration of the world political and economic order has been fundamentally re-shaped by the movement of this region to centre-stage.
