ABSTRACT
Anthropology Today is a bimonthly which was launched in 1985 after eleven years’ pre-existence under the title RAIN. This name, composed of the initials of Royal Anthropological Institute News, had been meant to evoke ideas of fertility and grace. I have been editor of both titles since I was appointed Director of the Institute in 1974.
