ABSTRACT
The London Quarterly was a Methodist organ ‘read by the educated middle class members and ministers of the denomination’ (Ellegård, 31). Under the title ‘Recent Novels: their Moral and Religious Teaching’, the writer finds occasion to deplore the moral influence of much sensation fiction. This brief comment on No Name prefaces a fuller discussion of Armadale (see No. 50 below).
