ABSTRACT

From Considerations on the Stage, and on the Advantages which arise to a Nation from the Encouragement of Arts, published originally in the weekly magazine, The British Journal, or The Traveller, 5 and 12 December 1730, then issued separately (this being the text used here) attached to Cooke's play The Triumphs of Love and Honour (1731). Thomas Cooke (1703-56), poet, translator, dramatist, who also edited Marvell, issued a periodical The Comedian: or Philosophical Enquirer in 1732-3 and became editor of The Country Journal: or The Craftsman in 1741.
