ABSTRACT
Today, people with different kinds of disabilities are working together and discovering their political potential, as witnessed in the passage of the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990. The growth of a disability rights movement raises many questions about the history of disabled Americans and the cultural meaning of disability for both disabled and nondisabled citizens.
