ABSTRACT
The Hebrew text of verses 5–6 is (as the NRSV footnote puts it) ‘uncertain’. While the detail is undoubtedly obscure, its general import is clear enough, describing as it does a vicious and violent attack on the structures of the temple. I do not, therefore, need to present an alternative text in this case, and we will content ourselves with the interpretation offered by NRSV.
