ABSTRACT

We have been looking in the previous chapter at how questions can help you to explore an idea, maybe something you are writing or something you read. They are good starting points, but at degree level you need to go further and ask questions that raise more complex issues. The thinking demanded of you probes more complex ideas and like most higher level thinking leads to yet more questions. Higher order questions are useful to you because they generate ideas, explore concepts and feed into seminars, essays, assignments and dissertations. Once you have read this chapter you will probably need to return to it after reading other parts of the book.
