ABSTRACT
Whereas the previous chapter dealt with units of cultural transmission and mechanisms of preservation and propagation, the goal of this chapter is to summarize and critique leading efforts to build and test models of cultural evolution. The first section focuses on processes of transformation in cultural evolution, and offers a kind of status report on the construction of models. The second section discusses two cases to which the models of cultural evolution have been applied. These demonstrate the explanatory power of evolutionary analogies.
