ABSTRACT

Aggression is all too commonplace in our modern pluralistic and competitive society. Although most of us are spared the lethal violence of war, terrorism and the barbarity that goes with modern crime, most of us have occasionally encountered behaviour that we think of as aggressive. There is a wide range of it including verbal unpleasantness, the threat of violence or painful physical contact, being on the receiving end of rumours and vicious gossip or maybe outright rejection by family or colleagues at work. Aggression, be it in the form of life-threatening violence or devious harassment, is a regrettable part of human nature.
