ABSTRACT

Once upon a time there was a Europe that took three types of society into a partnership. To the south an empire was established, only to collapse. To the north the gifts of the empire transformed simple societies into kingdoms. And finally a seigneurial relation between political power and the ownership of land emerged. From this society the configurations of the European future were to rise. If we try to examine these connections, we can look at Denmark, as in a magnifying glass, and even the events of the furthest regions of Europe will be reflected there. We can look at Europe on a wider scale too, and Denmark will be in it (Randsborg in preparation).
