ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we will be looking at the relationship between the way stress is experienced and dealt with and the personality of the psychotherapist. The main contention will be that certain individual characteristics in the therapist’s personality are helpful and of value in managing stress; and furthermore, while some of these may be innate, that these, and other traits can be aquired in the course of working as a therapistbecause the nature of the work requires them to be present.
