ABSTRACT

The thresholds for static haptic curvature discrimination at different locations on the hand and for stimuli varying in length up to 20 cm reveal a single trend. Tbis trend suggests that the effective stimulus for the discrimination of curvature in the range -4/m to +4/m is the total difference of local surface attitude (the slope difference) between the outermost contact positions on the stimulus (pont, Kappers, & Koenderink, in press).
