ABSTRACT

Classroom investigations using an action research approach are a particularly effective means of bringing about teachers’ professional development in information technology. This chapter draws on the research of the Pupil Autonomy in Learning with Microcomputers Project (PALM)2 which adopted this approach in twenty-four primary and secondary schools in East Anglia during 1988-90. Similar approaches have been used very successfully in teacher training, both with tutors (see Chapter 18) and student teachers (see Chapter 10).
