ABSTRACT

Parts One and Two of this book focus upon the importance of curriculum development and teacher professional development in using IT effectively in teaching and learning. The third vital ingredient is the development of the organisation to provide a compatible climate. The organisation will need to support and adopt changes taking place in the learning process. The three dimensions of innovationcurriculum, professional development and management of the organisation-can either support each other or cripple effective development. Innovation is unlikely to flourish in a restrictive environment. Project INTENT and the PALM project are among the few innovative projects with IT which have attempted to work with all three dimensions simultaneously. It seems that a failure to attempt this integrated approach is one reason for the patchy nature of IT in education today.
