ABSTRACT

FE colleges play a significant role in the life of their local communities and beyond; indeed some which specialise in certain courses attract students on a national basis. The range of people who come through the college doors, as we saw in Chapter 2, represents the diversity of the college’s geographical, socio-economic and cultural location. Reaching out from the college, the links into the community will include outreach centres for teaching and access-related services, partnerships with local schools and HEIs, and a range of mechanisms for relating to the world of business and industry. As a college lecturer, therefore, you will be constantly aware of the wider world beyond your immediate teaching room.
