ABSTRACT
Two leitmotifs pervade the discussion. One is the essential unity of the various types of learning. The other is the implicit recognition that the learning discussed has a purpose beyond itself. These two themes come together to inform the key pedagogical skill of teaching problem solving, which depends on both.
