ABSTRACT
In 1939, using the sobriquet J. A. Peddiwell, Harold Benjamin wrote some particularly penetrating observations on the curriculum. His allegorical observations were set in the Stone Age and described how ‘New Fist’, the first great educational theorist and practitioner, developed a formal system of schooling designed to cater for his social group's most pressing needs. This resulted in the development of three major curriculum modules:
