ABSTRACT
By the end of 1915 the British had 38 divisions in France. This fact and the enhanced quality and quantity of British munitions seemed to offer the Western Allies the possibility of ending the deadlock on the Western Front. At the very least, it offered some relief for the French, who had borne the brunt of the Allied military effort.
