ABSTRACT

Foch’s strategy was essentially one great pushing action all the way from Ypres to Verdun. On 26 September the French and Americans launched what became known as the Meuse-Argonne Offensive, which continued until the end of the war. The US First Army and the French Fourth Army drove the Germans back steadily. By 11 November the Germans had suffered more than 100,000 casualties (26,000 POWs) and lost 846 guns.
