ABSTRACT

Children’s liberation holds that children have the same right to run their lives as adults. The basic argument for children’s liberation, as laid out by John Harris and others, is clear and eloquent. Given the perennial appeal of freedom, children’s liberation is an attractive position. It has some drawbacks that suggest that we should be slow to embrace it, however, and so, much as it pains me to argue against any form of liberation, I conclude that neither his argument nor any other I have seen is tenable.
