ABSTRACT
Sura, which is one of the largest tributaries of the Volga. Penza is famous for its cultural traditions. The first circus troupe in Russia was formed in the town in 1875, and the Penza Music Academy was established in 1882. The Lunacharsky Theatre in Penza, which is one of the oldest playhouses in Russia, dates from 1793. A picture gallery opened in 1892 and an art college in 1898.
