Introduction

This collection of essays is presented by its authors to Hugh Berrington. It was prompted by Hugh’s retirement from the Chair of Politics at the University of Newcastle, a post he held for twenty-four years. Hugh’s career as a political scientist has spanned nearly forty years and this volume recognises and celebrates the many ways in which he has contributed to the study of politics during his long academic career.
