ABSTRACT

The hypothetico-deductive method (H-D) is one of a number of attempts to describe the methodology of the physical sciences (see philosophy of science). Basically, the methodology of science described by the H-D model is as follows: (i) a hypothesis is put forward; (ii) various statements are then deduced from this hypothesis; (iii) these statements are then tested experimentally. If the hypothesis fails the process of experimental testing, then it is rejected. If, however, the hypothesis can be supported experimentally, then it is tentatively accepted.
