ABSTRACT
Rice & Steinfield discuss some novel applications of tele-conversation systems, i.e. electronic mail and voice messaging. They argue that specific characteristics of these systems can explain why they have certain functions other than the simple substitution of traditional media. Based on a review concerning the use of these systems they indicate conditions that may affect the use and outcomes of these systems.
