ABSTRACT
To the average person, “grammar and usage” may seem like the dullest of topics for discussion. If folks feel anything toward these twin subjects, it’s usually a combination of anxiety, distaste, and tedium, the negative residue of long-ago experiences as students. Now and then, you’ll encounter someone who’s really jazzed about grammar arcana (e.g., a fan of sentence diagramming), but outside old-school English departments, these people are few and far between.
