ABSTRACT

A teacher’s classroom performance is one aspect of professional work. In the units above we introduced a range of approaches that can help fellow teachers share and use a particular vocabulary to enhance classroom performance within the whole school. We emphasised how a central element in teaching is the decision making that is constantly necessary to respond to and capitalise on changing circumstances. This involves making decisions about which classroom skills to employ and in what way to use them. But teaching involves decision making that goes beyond the selection of the appropriate teaching skills.
