ABSTRACT

When he [Chlothar II] saw her [Brunhild], he said: ‘O enemy of the Lord, why have you done so many evil things and how have you had the temerity to kill so many of the royal family?’ Then the army of the Franks and Burgundians united in shouting that the very wicked Brunhild deserved death. Then King Chlothar had her lifted onto a camel and paraded through all the army. Then she was tied to the hooves of unbroken horses and torn limb from limb. Finally she died; her only grave was the fire and her bones were consumed. After establishing peace, the king went home.
