ABSTRACT

It is fascinating to note the variety and seeming divergence of the therapeutic styles of therapists who work within the Intersystem Approach. To illustrate this variety and divergence, the styles of two therapists who operate within the framework of the Intersystem Approach will be compared. Differences in style will be illustrated through the use of excerpts from therapy sessions which focus on similar content, in this case each couple's sexual relationship. Comparison will focus on three areas. First, the therapists' different ways of operationalizing the basic principles of the Intersystem Approach (see Chapters 3 & 5) will be highlighted. (References to the basic principles will be capitalized.) In addition, the three-dimensional model of therapeutic focus (see Chapter 5) will be used to analyze the different levels of the system targeted by each therapist. Finally, more general elements of the therapists' styles will be discussed.
