ABSTRACT

This is a headteacher’s description of her school and her approach to management. Many of the issues raised by the other chapters in the ‘schools’ section of this book can be seen to be embedded in the account and the fact that it is a personal account gives it a particular interest. Note the importance of the head’s values and educational philosophy, the complexity of management challenges in a period of change and the role of the head in representing the school externally as well as leading it internally.
