ABSTRACT
Feminism and theater did not stand still while this book was being written any more than it did during the fifteen or so years the book covers. The changes in feminism that occurred while the book was written often affected the ways in which I wrote about and understood the material under consideration. While much of the instability described here has to do with the processes of constructing history, I think some of it is intrinsic to feminism.
