ABSTRACT
The map on p. 190 shows those ideas which make up a sound basis to work towards in the early secondary years. This is proposed as a coherent framework in itself which at the same time provides an appropriate basis for development. A particle view of substances is a helpful one for pupils to have for explaining phenomena and the central ideas around which understanding is structured are in double boxes. Two of these are the goals of the Learning Guides.
