ABSTRACT
The glorious sunrise of the science of genetics shone through the second half of the nineteenth century. Hofmeister described dividing chromosomes in 1848, and Mendel worked out the basic rules of inheritance in 1866, using peas. From the 1860s through to the 1890s the deductions of Darwin interlinked with those of Gallon, laying the foundations of genetics.
