ABSTRACT

In this chapter (written as a basis for a lecture delivered before the Law Asia Energy Section International Conference, Melbourne, Australia, on 3 October 1990) we discuss the challenges that the World Bank Group may be expected to face in the remaining years of this century. Considering the dramatic events which are at present evolving in the Middle East, this assessment is all the more relevant in a world community which needs, perhaps more than ever before, the full cooperation of its members and increasing ingenuity and dedication from its multilateral institutions.
