Introduction

The goal of this work is first to demonstrate that accentual phenomena are quite vulnerable to language-contact change and to present a relatively complete survey of the typological/comparative literature on areal and language-contact aspects of accentuation and accentual change. The tendency to accentual change in language contact can be found around the world and across a broad assortment of contact settings.
