ABSTRACT
A characteristic feature of the Danish educational system is its high degree of decentralisation. Accordingly, legislation and regulations are put in place only when it is felt that they are relevant to the situation of local authorities: central government follows local developments and confines itself to drawing up general laws, which can be developed further at local level.
