ABSTRACT
Characteristic features of the Danish educational system are decentralisation, integration and normalisation. The effort to achieve integration of handicapped students in education and the willingness to let handicapped people grow up in their own environment, have resulted in the placement of large numbers of students with special needs in regular education. The facilities for students with special needs in the Folkeskole are extremely varied: a special teacher who is present part-time in the regular classroom to assist individual children and/or groups; part-time instruction in a well-equipped, special classroom (the clinic); instruction in an intensive course of several months; full-time special classroom. A multi-disciplinary team decides on the provision of these services to students.
