ABSTRACT
In the linguistic description of loanwords from English into another language the pronunciation aspect is definitely the most problematical. Whereas matters of spelling, morphology and also semantics can be confidently described in terms of the customary linguistic concepts, the fleeting and possibly variable sounds used in their pronunciation are not so easily placed in a categorial framework that can do justice to the facts. To the casual observer it may even seem as if speakers here move in a kind of phonetic no man’s land between the English donor language and their own receiving language.
