ABSTRACT

In a certain village there was this married peasant and his old mother lived with him. He and his bride didn't like the old woman and often cursed her and scolded her. Once on Christ's very day they left the liturgy and sat down at the table to break the fast. For some reason the son became angry at his mother and said, "I would rather see a serpent at the table than you!"
