ABSTRACT

In a certain tsardom, in a certain land, and in fact in the one in which we live, there lived and dwelt an old man. He lived poorly, and he had three sons-the oldest was intelligent, the middle one was neither very bright nor too stupid, but the third one was an utter fool. Need gripped them such that they couldn't stand it and so the oldest son said, "Let me go, father, I'll go out and seek some work."
