ABSTRACT

This little old man went out to beg for alms in many places and he came to a certain master's house, collapsed, lay there a while, and died. There was left just his kaftan, already patched, a very poor piece. And so the master bundled up all his other clothes. "I'll just toss this worn-out kaftan into the fire." The stove went out when he threw it in, so he said, "Alright, I'll take it to the water and sink it." But he couldn't sink it, he couldn't get it to the bottom, and he couldn't carry it away anywhere. So then he ripped off a patch and then ripped off more patches and underneath each patch there was a coin, so he ripped up a lot of money and he started counting it. And it came to a whole thousand rubles. So then he said, "What should I do with this money? I'd better go to my father confessor and ask him."
