ABSTRACT
Two poets-and only two-of the Elizabethan age produced love poetry in which the true note of absolute passion is struck-Shakespeare and Donne. But comparison of the two reveals the fact that, while Donne seems sometimes to set down his impressions hot and crude, in Shakespeare the passion is always mastered by the artist.
