ABSTRACT

Professor P.Aronstein (1862-1942) of the University of Berlin published studies of BenJonson, English Renaissance drama, Charles Dickens, Thomas Carlyle, Benjamin Disraeli and Oscar Wilde, as well as an English-language textbook for foreigners, and a history of the Jews in England and America in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. The first of his several essays on Donne, written in German, appeared in 1916 (‘John Donne und Francis Bacon’, Englische Studien, 49 (1916), 360-76).
