ABSTRACT
The poet and critic Lionel Johnson (1867-1902), a Catholic convert, contributed to a literary journal an unsigned essay on religious poetry (‘The Soul of Sacred Poetry’, Academy, 26 December 1896; the essay was reprinted after Johnson’s death in a gathering of his literary papers called Post Liminium, ed. T.Whittemore, 1911, pp. 112-20).
