ABSTRACT
Social work is not the only occupation to maintain that it receives inordinately hostile press coverage and, by extension, to assume that it has a poor public image. Even such apparently unlikely groups as doctors (Karpf 1988) and the police force (Schlesinger et al. 1991) feel similarly aggrieved.
