ABSTRACT

I shall not attempt to make a comprehensive summary of the material in this book; indeed, I very much hope to have stimulated readers to turn to some of the works discussed in previous chapters, and to pursue them in greater detail. Nor shall I come to any overall coherent theoretical conclusions. This would be quite inappropriate, for reasons that should become apparent. Rather, I am going to tell a story that draws fairly selectively on the previous chapters and their exploration of the relationship between visual representation and social science analysis.
