ABSTRACT

Behram Mehta, the owner of Aava bottled natural mineral water, completed his schooling from St. Xavier’s School, Loyola Hall of Ahmedabad and graduation from H.L. College of Commerce.

Mehta’s father managed the construction business under the renowned local brand name, Emi Mortar. In 1980, however, due to cement decontrol, the business came to a standstill. His father, therefore, wanted his son to take up a job, instead of getting into the business line. Behram Mehta, therefore, joined Godrej and Boyce in Bombay as a Sales Executive at a salary of ` 2,500 per month. However, job was extremely demanding and he had to travel long distances, within and outside Mumbai in local trains. Though he did well on the job, he possessed a burning desire to establish his own business. He, therefore, thought of starting a business which was related to his earlier family work of construction. In 1983, he

left the job and set up Gujarat’s fi rst granite tiling unit in a small garage near his home at Shahpur.
