ABSTRACT

This chapter is concerned with the work carried out with pupils in the six project schools during the first three years of the project. It reports primarily on the findings from the language attitude questionnaire completed by pupils each year, but also describes views expressed by a small sample of pupils in a series of group interviews. The focus is on their experience of learning languages other than French as FL1s, as formulated in the first two of OXPROD’s research questions:

(i) What attitudes do children have to French, German and Spanish at various stages of their learning? (ii) What difficulties do children experience in French, German and Spanish and at which stages in their learning?
