ABSTRACT

Public sector management at the local level is mainly carried out by local government, but it also includes management representatives of national and state government departments, and public agencies such as tourism boards and transportation agencies. To be effective the various managers and their organisations should cooperate with one another and the private sector. Local politicians as elected representatives can be much more involved in detailed management than at the national or state level. This can improve, or impair, the application of the five principles of public interest, public service, effectiveness, efficiency and accountability.
