ABSTRACT
A disappointing outcome of our review of memory theories is that there appears to have been relatively little progress, at least until fairly recently. Indeed, one could argue that Aristotle's sketchy outline was the most advanced conception. Although it is too early to decide whether neo-associational models will constitute a significant theoretical advance, they certainly provide that prospect.
