ABSTRACT

The purpose of this chapter is to present a detailed analysis of ACT's production system. The first section describes the principles of operation of the production system. The second section describes how a subroutine structure may be imposed on productions. Such subroutine structure is useful in modeling complex tasks and is also used to guide the induction system (see Section 12.3). The third and final section reports on a pair of experiments that serve to display some properties of the production system.
